Bisibelabath with Potato Fry, Papad and Kothavarakaai vathal...

Bisibelabath:

Ingredients:
  • Oil
  • Rice
  • Red gram dhal
  • Some veggies
  • Bisibelabath pdr (if using the alternative method, bypass this)
  • Mustard seeds
  • curry leaves
  • urad dhal
  • Ghee (if req)
  • Peanuts (opt)
  • Red chilli
  • Onion
  • Capsicum
  • Corriander leaves (for garnishing)
  • Tamarind paste

Preparation:

Cook rice and red gram dhal with water separately in a pressure cooker.(almost equal amt of rice n dhal)
Cook some veggies (carrots, beans, peas, etc) too. I use the microwave usually in such instances. Cook the veggies in a microwave safe bowl for about 6 - 10 mins. Mix the rice, red gram and veggies together and cook them for somemore time in low flame. If req, u can go ahead n add water. Well, I think I should mention that the best thing I love about this dish is you can get crazy n add how much ever water u want to. Anyways, the dish is gonna taste scrumptious for sure.
Add Bisibelabath pdr ( 3 or 4 tbps) + tamarind paste + salt. Cook on low flame for 5 mins.In another pan, add oil + mustard + curry leaves + urad dhal + peanuts + red chilli + onion(1 small) + capsicum. Subsituting oil with ghee gives more flavour to this dish. But if u r a health freak like me, then go ahead n stick onto oil :(Add the above said to the rice mixture and garnish with corriander.

Yummy Bisibelabath is ready.

Alternative:
If getting a Bisibelabath pdr is tough then u can easily get the same flavoured rice with (leftover) sambar. At my house, the sambar which is prepared for lunch never fails to take a Bisibelabath avatar for dinner ;) This way you can easily fool ur hubby tat u hav been working hard preparing dinner ;D

Here comes the magic...

If your goin to prepare carrot beans sambar for lunch make sure u make a lil excess than required. For Dinner, all u hav to do is, boil some rice, mix it with sambar, Cook this by pouring excess water than req to the above said mixture, if req add more sambar pdr.

In another pan, do the same seasoning as mentioned for the bisibelabath and add it to the sambar rice.

garnish with corriander leaves. Your done with the most yummiest rice dish you can come over with a leftover.
