Potato Channa Masala


Ingredients needed :
  • White Chick peas - 2 cups
  • Potato 
  • Onion  - 2
  • Tomato - 1
  • Cardomon - 1
  • Cloves - 2
  • Fennel seeds - little 
  • Salt
  • Chilli powder - 1/4 tsp.
  • Garam masala powder - 1/4 tsp.
  • Turmeric powder - a pinch 
  • Lemon juice 
  • Oil
  • Corriander leaves
To grind : 
  • Ginger - little piece
  • Cashews - 5
  • Coconut  - little
  • Whole Dhaniya (Corriander seeds ) - 2 tsp.
  • Cloves - 2
  • Jeera - 1/2 tsp.
  • Khus khus / Poppy seed - little
  • Dried red chilli  - 2 
  • Onion - 1/2
  • Tomato - 1
  • Garlic Clove  - 1
Method :



           Soak chickpea overnight and pressure cook till done (add little salt to it) Chop onions, tomatoes, grate coconut, chop the potatoes and keep it immersed in  water .

Take a small bowl add little water and add all the given ingredients listed in  to grind list and soak it for few mins. expect Onion , garlic & Tomato .Heat a saucepan and add little water and add the chopped potatoes + little salt and allow it to cook well (make sure it is not over done ) .
Heat a kadai add a tsp. of oil and 1/2 roughly chopped onions + 1 garlic clove + little salt  and fry it for few mins. then add 1 roughly chopped tomato and fry it few secs. Take a blender and add the fried onion + tomato + garlic and soaked ingredients and make it into fine paste .

Heat a kadai again and add  2 tsp. of oil and add fennel seeds + cardamon + cloves + chopped onions + tomatoes + little salt + chilli powder + garam masala powder + turmeric powder  and fry it for few mins. then add the grinded paste and cook it for few mins. 
To this add the cooked potatoes + boiled chickpeas + lemon juice  if needed add little water and allow it to cook well till done and garnish with coriander leaves...goes well with chapathi .

      Pidi Kuzhakattai ~~ 500th Post


      Reached another milestone ..This is our 500th post . Thanks to all our friends for your constant support and encouragement . Hope u remember Kavitha ...hehehehe  it's all because of her I am now enjoying , learning a lot in this blogging world ... and this sweet is for you dear ..(ok ok don't scold me saying : nalla neram paarthu sweet kodutha nu ...idu last sunday rombo neram yennoda phone la pesinadukku ...after a long time ...Hope to meet u again , miss u lot ) and also I have one other reason to celebrate  as we recd. one another blog award from our frnd. Sangeetha

      This pidi kozhukattai is usally made as prasadam and one of my fav. recp. learnt this from my mother recently and tried it  ...hope u all like it ...

      Ingredients needed :
      • Raw rice  - 1 cup
      • Jaggery - 3/4 cup
      • Coconut 
      • Elachi powder
      • Ghee 
      • Water - 2 cups
      Method : 
      Heat kadai and fry the rice and then grind it coarsely like rava consistency. Heat the kadai and add the jagger and water and allow it to dissolve well and then strain the water to remove impurities. Chop the coconut into fine pieces and set aside now add the jaggery water + elachi powder + coconut pieces and allow it to boil well ,then bring the flame to medium and slowly add the rice rava and keep stirring it well till it reaches thick consistency ...once done switch off the flame and allow it to cool it completely. Once done take a small ball size of the kozhukattai and using ur hand roll it into a oval shape ...and set aside ...once done,take idli plates and grease it with little oil and place the kuzhakattais and steam it for 10 mins ..

        Arisi (Rice) Payasam






        Ingredients needed : 
        • Raw rice - 1 /2  cup
        • Grated coconut - 1 cup
        • Cashews - 10
        • Jaggery
        • Milk - 1/2 cup
        • Elachi powder
        • Ghee




        Method : 

        Soak raw rice +cashews in water for 30mins. Grate coconut and set aside. Heat  a kadai and add jaggery and little water and allow it dissolve well meanwhile take a blender and add soaked rice + cashews + grated coconut and grind it to fine paste , if needed add little water. Strain the dissolved jaggery water to remove the impurities (wash the kadai also with water )Heat the kadai and add a tsp of ghee and add the jaggery water and allow it to boil well , briing the flame to medium and then add the grinded paste and allow it to cook well. Once done switch off the gas and add  elachi powder + boiled milk 1/2 cup ...and serve it

          Bread Sandwich


          This is the simple method of making bread sandwich ..made this for my son and gave him a cup of Hot Chocolate - Oats Apple Milkshake ...this combo is very filling breakfast ...I am sure all will enjoy this. 

          Ingredients needed : 
          • Carrot
          • Onion
          • Tomato
          • Cucumber 
          • Paneer (opt.)
          • Chat masala powder
          Method : 
          • Chop Tomato , onion , carrot , cucumber , paneer into thin slices ...take 2 slice of bread ..
          • In one bread place each one slice of onion + tomato + cucmber + Carrot + Paneer and sprinkle some chat masala powder and place another bread slice 
          • prepare the sandwich with the help of sandwich maker and enjoy it with tomato sauce / ketchup
          If you don't have sandwich maker , you can heat the tawa and spread some butter on 2 bread slice and  heat the bread on both sides ...once done u can place a slice of onion + tomato + cucumber +carrot and sprinkle little chat masala and place the other bread slice on top of it and enjoy the sandwich .

          Potato Paneer Frankie


          Saw this recipe in Nithya's  blog and tried it ...it was too good and enjoyed it well Just that I skipped adding chilli lemon / chilli vinegar mixture ...

          Ingredients needed : 
          To make Potato - Paneer Frankie : 


          • Potato
          • Paneer
          • Onions
          • Salt
          • Garam masala
          • Chilli powder
          • Turmeric powder
          • Lemon Juice
          • Corn flour
          • Oil
          Method : 
          • Boil potatoes and mash it well ...Chop onions finely , grate paneer and set aside ...
          • In a kadai add a tsp. of oil and fry the onions + salt once done add mashed potato + Paneer + garam masala + chilli powder + turmeric powder and mix it well ....
          • allow it to cool off completely and then sprinkle cornflour and take some potato - paneer mixture and roll it in oval shape and keep it ready ...
          • Heat a tawa and fry the frankies by adding a tsp. of oil , cook it in both sides till done and set aside ..
          To make Onion - masala mixture : 
          • Chop onions finely and in a bowl add the onions + chat masla + amchur powder and mix it well...
          To make  Masala water : 
          • In a small bowl add the chilli powder + amchur powder + pinch of salt + little water to mix it ...
          To make Chilli - lemon or Chilli - vinegar water : (I skipped this )
          • Chop chillies finely and add lemon juice or vinegar and allow it to marinate for few mins ...
          To assemble frankie :  you need :
          • Roti
          • Potato - paneer frankie
          • Onion - Masala mixture
          • Masala water
          • Chilli - lemon / vinegar 
          Method : 
          • Place the roti in a plate and place 2 frankies in the middle and add onion masala mixture and add little masala water + chilli - lemon / vinegar and fold it tightly and serve and enjoy it ...

          Mixed Vegetable Dal



          To make dal :


          Ingredients needed :
          • Moong dal - 1 cup
          • Masoor dal - 1 cup
          • Salt
          • Turmeric powder - less than 1/4 tsp.
          • Jeera 
          • Corriander leaves

          Method :

          Wash dals well and add reqd. amount of water and pressure cook it well till done
          While the dal is being cooked ...you can prepare the veggies, once done ,add salt + turmeric powder and mash it well ...heat a kadai and add a tsp. of oil and temper the jeera and add it to the dhal and set aside...
            To make the veggies :




            Ingredients needed :
            • Mixed vegetables (Carrot + beans + Potato )
            • Onions - 2
            • Tomato 
            • Capsicum 
            • Chilli powder
            • Jeera powder
            • Dhaniya powder
            • Garam masala powder
            • Lemon Juice
            • Salt
            • Oil
            Method :

            Clean and finely chop Carrot,beans,potato,capsicum,onions and tomatoes (I have used frozen baby carrots ,so have added it just like that without chopping it .)
            Heat a kadai and add oil then add the onions and fry it ...next goes in capsicum and fry it well...once done add the tomatoes and fry it ...then add the potaotes, carrot,beans+Salt and sprinkle some water and saute it well ..when it is almost done add chilli powder,jeera powder,dhaniya powder , garam masala and fry it well till done ....finally add the lemon juice, take the cooked dal in the serving bowl and add in the cooked veggies just before the serving , taste good and goes well with chapati ..

                Palak Raita

                Saw this recipe here ,but changed few steps and made it in my way :

                Ingredients needed : 
                • Palak - 2 bunches
                • Onions - 1
                • Ginger - small piece
                • Garlic - 2 pod
                • Curd
                • Jeera 
                • Salt
                • Pepper powder
                • Amchur powder 
                • Oil
                Method :
                Clean and chop palak leaves ..Chop onions finely , take the skin of ginger and chop it finely ...Heat a kadai and add oil + Jeera + ginger + garlic + onions + salt and fry it well then add the palak leaves and saute it for few mins...then allow it cool completely. In a serving bowl add the curd + pepper powder + amchur powder and mix it well ...to that add the cooked palak and onions and mix it well ...and serve it .

                  Paneer Tikka


                  Ingredients needed :

                  • Paneer - 10  cubes
                  • Capsicum - 2
                  • Onions - 2
                  • Tomato (Ripe but firm ) - 2
                  • Oil
                  • bamboo skewers
                  to marinate :
                  • thick curd
                  • Chilli powder
                  • Jeera powder
                  • Dhaniya powder
                  • Garam masala
                  • Turmeric powder
                  • Salt
                  • Lemon juice



                  Method :
                  In a bowl add the curd + salt + chilli powder + jeera powder + dhaniya powder + turmeric powder + lemon juice and mix it well ...Chop capsicum , onions , tomatoes into cubes ... I marinated paneer , onions , capsicum , tomatoes seperately in small bowls ...

                  In a  bowl add the paneer pieces and pour in little marianted curd to it and coat it well and set aside ...same way do it for capsicum , tomato and onions and set aside ...Heat tawa and add little oil and place each and every pieces of paneer separately and in medium heat cook it well in both sides ..once done keep it in aside ...in the same way do for capsicum , onions , tomatoes .Take a bamboo skewers and insert marinated and cooked paneer , capsicum , onions and tomatoes one by one and enjoy ...
                    We enjoyed this paneer kebab with vegetable cutlet  and palak raita (will post the recipe for palak raita soon..)

                    Panchamirtham


                    Today being Thai Poosam , I made Panchamirtham as prasadam ... Saw this recipe here and made it ...as I don't get Malai vazhaipazham , I used Pachai vazhaipazham.. The main reason for using Malai vazhaipazham (Small bananas) is it has less water content and U will get thick consistency panchamirtham ...

                    Ingredients needed : 
                    • Malai Vazhaipazham 
                    • Honey
                    • Palm sugar
                    • Pitted dates
                    • Kalkandu (Sugar candy)
                    Method : 
                    Peel the skin of bananas , chop the dates finely...In a bowl add the bananas and  mash it well using your hands ...then goes in honey , palm sugar , chopped dates ..keep mixing it well with your hands and then add kalkandu and mix it once ...

                      Nellikkai / Gooseberry Pickle

                      Having tried making nellikkai pickle in this method wanted to try like Aavakkai pickle ..and loved this method a lot ..
                        

                      Ingredients needed : 
                      • Gooseberry / Nellikkai - 20 -25
                      • Salt
                      • Chilli powder
                      • Mustard seeds
                      • Methi seeds
                      • Hing powder
                      • Turmeric powder
                      • Sesame oil
                      Method : 

                      Wash and pat dry gooseberry and chop it into pieces and discard the seeds. Heat a kadai and dry roast  mustard seeds then roast the methi seeds ...and allow it to cool well and then powder it ..in the same kadai add the sesame oil and heat it for few mins and allow it to cool off completely ... 
                      In a clean vessel add the chopped gooseberry + salt + turmeric powder + hing + chilli powder and mix it well ..to that add the mustard seeds powder + methi seeds powder and mix it ..then add the heated oil and give a nice stir and allow it to rest well ...for a day or two , you can keep it in room temperature and keep mixing it well...then take a clean glass bottle and store it in refrigerator ..
